Obituary Part 2

A licensed captain, Bruce would organize and lead boating excursions along the East Coast and up the Hudson River. When not piloting his own boat, Bruce enjoyed taking cruises and traveling the world. Though New York was always first in his heart, he loved snow-birding in Hawaii each winter and, when not out with friends, on the beach, or listening to live music, you could find him sitting out on his Lanai enjoying the view. Bruce treasured his time with his family and friends. He is survived by his beloved wife Barbara (Walker) Piel whom he married on August 8, 1964. He is also survived by his daughter and son-in-law Kathleen (Piel) Scace and Thomas of Pittsfield MA, his son Kevin Piel and daughter-in-law Christina of Ronkonkoma, NY, as well as his 5 grandchildren: Nicole, Ryan, Grace, Lauren, Christian, and his great-grandson George. He also is survived by his brother David Piel of Sausalito, CA and his nephew Sean Piel of Levittown, NY. His brother Wayne Piel passed away on November 5, 2021. Those who knew Bruce know he hated being fussed over and would rather give than receive. In lieu of funeral services, and to honor Bruce's character, we ask that all who wish to participate make a donation to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or North Shore Animal Hospital.
