Max was born in 1922 in Patchogue, NY to Samuel and Zelda Cantor. He grew up in Bayshore, NY with his five siblings, Joe, Harry, Gloria, Irving, and Leon. He worked in his father’s glass business the Cantor Brothers in Bayshore, while completing high school. Shortly thereafter, he was drafted into the US army, where he served in the 13th Repair Squadron. In the Pacific Theater, he served in New Caledonia, The Admiralty Islands, and Biak, in the Netherlands East Indies. He holds five ribbons, The Good Conduct, Asiatic - Pacific, Philippine Liberation, American Defense and Victory, and also wears three battle stars. On December 17, 1945, he returned to the US and was honorably discharged on January 11, 1946 from Fort Dix NJ. One week after being discharged Max married Concetta Bartolotta to whom he was married for 74 years. They made their home in Wantagh where they had one daughter Anne Marie. In 1946 Max and Connie started their own storefront business Max Cantor Inc. in Freeport, NY. They retired in 2003. Max enjoyed playing golf, going to Jones Beach, attending Sunday Mass at St. Francis De Chantal, spending time with family, and going out to Galleria Ristorante in Old Westbury. Max is survived by his wife Concetta, his daughter Anne and her husband Jeff, four grandchildren David, Joanna, Gregory, and Laura, one great-granddaughter Emilia, and a brother Leon Cantor.
