Obituary
Marilyn Joan Lutfy (née Hahlbohm) passed away peacefully on January 13, 2025. She was born on October 17, 1933, in Mineola, NY and enjoyed her childhood growing up on Stratford Avenue in Williston Park. She was the youngest daughter of Henry and Elsie Hahlbohm and sister of Henry, Arthur (Red), Richard, Elise (Penny), Mickey and her foster brother Albert.
Widow of Dr. George C. Lutfy, they married in July 1960 and raised four daughters Linda, Patricia, Kathryn, and Diane in Cold Spring Harbor, Long Island. Marilyn was a loving grandmother (Baba) to Kathryn, Jack and Timothy. She adored her grandchildren and cherished every moment with them.
She maintained her stunning beauty even as she aged and was a gifted artist and gardener. She loved to entertain and create special, memorable moments for everyone around her. She enjoyed having dinner at her daughter Diane and son-in-law Tom’s house - her “favorite restaurant” - and watching endless Hallmark movies until she could recount the entire plot to anyone who listened. She loved her animals, and gave them the best care any dog, cat, horse or backyard visiting bird could ask for—she especially adored her many beloved Boxer puppies. Her charm, beauty and grace touched many, even strangers, and she was kind and generous to family and friends, who meant everything to her.
She is deeply missed, but we are comforted to know that she is at peace and reunited with her husband, family, friends, and pets that have passed. We love her so much and will cherish the endless wonderful memories we have with her forever.

Forever In Our Hearts
Yesterday we lost my beautiful, funny, wise, and loving grandma, peacefully in her sleep. She lived an incredible 91 years of life, and we are unbelievably blessed to have had so much time with her. My dad’s parents passed away before my brothers and I were born, and PopPop, our maternal grandpa and Baba’s husband, passed when I was 11, so for most of our lives, Baba has been our only grandparent. She has been there for every moment - every birthday, every graduation, every holiday, all of my happiest memories have Baba there in them, cheering us on and loving us in that special way that only a grandmother can. Among the most precious of these memories is our wedding celebration last October, two days after her 91st birthday. To have her there with our whole family together, full of joy and dancing the night away, was priceless. I strive for my own marriage to be as happy, loving, and long-lasting as Baba and PopPop’s was, and I’m so grateful that Baba has gotten to know and love my husband over these last five years. There are really no words to describe the depth of this loss for my family. But it gives me so much comfort to think of her finally at peace, reunited with her soulmate after 18 long years apart. I love you forever, Baba, and will miss you every day of my life. Give PopPop a kiss up there for me. Love Kathryn Gundersen
