Obituary
Robert D Jones, age 96, of Levittown left us on May 21, 2024, to join his wife, Alice, who recently passed away on Feb. 28. Married over 73 years, they were an inspiration to all, exhibiting mutual love and respect for each other. More commonly known as Bob Jones, he was an avid ball player his entire life. His boyhood love of baseball carried on through his time in the US Army, where no matter where he was stationed, he was organizing baseball teams. He continued with baseball and basketball through his career at Chase Manhattan. But where he excelled was when he retired and became involved in the Long Island Senior Softball Association (LISSA). Bob progressed from player to coach to manager to president of the association. Bob was instrumental in the formation of the LISSA “Hall of Fame”, recognizing player performance. He loved his “Tobay Tigers” team and continued to be involved through his 80s. Bob was a mentor to many. Survived by daughter, Robin Jones and partner Rick Curcio; son, Bob Jones Jr; son, Jeff Jones and wife Joan; cherished granddaughters, Samantha Jones and Ashley Jones. Family will receive friends Tuesday, 2-4pm and 7-9pm, at the Charles J. O’Shea Funeral Homes, 603 Wantagh Ave. (Exit 28N SS PKWY), Wantagh, NY. A prayer service will be held at 3:30 pm in the funeral home. Funeral service will be Wednesday, 9:30-10am at Charles J. O'Shea Funeral Home. Interment to follow at Calverton National Cemetery.
