Obituary

Helen O’Grady (91) of Point Lookout, NY died peacefully in the Rockville Skilled Nursing/Rehab Facility on May 16, 2024 surrounded by family. Helen grew up in the Holy Name Parish and Windsor Terrace neighborhood of her beloved Brooklyn. Her parents, John and Agnes Dwyer as well as her sisters (Anne, Catherine, Agnes, and Mary) preceded her in death. She was a proud graduate of St. Mary’s Nursing School in Brooklyn. She married William (Bill) O’Grady and together raised a large family in the St Raymond’s Parish in East Rockaway, Long Island. Sadly, she was preceded in death by her husband Bill (1994) and a baby daughter Mary Ellen. She is survived by her loving children Patricia (Denis) Quinn, Karen O’Grady, Maura (John) Rudder, Kathleen (Bryan) Gillis, Erin O’Grady, Megan (the late Terence) Manning, Bill O’Grady, Jeanne (George) Urich. Helen was a grandmother of 12 adoring grandchildren - Ryan, Tim, Colin, Samantha, Katie, Grace, Mairead, Trinity, Buddy, Georgie, Teagan, and Luke. She was blessed with one great grandchild (Liam) and was excited to know three more are expected in the next few months. Helen’s legacy will be the example and the foundation she set for her family. Her faith, resilience, energy and empathy were seemingly endless. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend visitation at O’Shea’s Funeral Home in Wantagh on Sunday, May 19 from 4-8 pm Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 am on Monday, May 20 at Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Church in Point Lookout, NY with Helen’s nephew, Rev. James Hederman, presiding. Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery in Brooklyn.
