Obituary
Sweeney, Myles (aka Jerry) 88, of East Meadow, NY, passed away on March 10, 2024 at his home after a
long illness.
Born in Ballaghaderreen Roscommon Ireland to Myles and Mary. Before emigrating to America in 1953,
he was captain of the Roscommon minor football team. A proud U.S. Army veteran serving in Korea after
the war building orphanages.
Married Ann Bracken on August 3, 1963 in Queens N.Y. They settled in East Meadow in 1971. He worked
as a bus mechanic for the MTA for over 20 years. A fine athlete, his greatest accomplishment was
winning the Waterford Crystal Cup at the Rynair Golf Classic in 1990.
In retirement, he enjoyed golfing, fishing, gardening, socializing with his many friends and especially
being Dan Dan (grandad) to his beloved grandchildren.
Myles is predeceased by his parents, Myles and Mary. His brother Michael, sister in law Patty, sister,
Mona and brother Frank.
Myles is survived by his wife Ann, daughters Joan Ruggiero (Louis) and Mairead Sweeney (Eloise),
brother Mal (Elizabeth),sister in law Kitty, grandchildren Jack and Maggie and many nieces and nephews.
His was a life well lived and he will be greatly missed by his surviving family and friends.
