Obituary

Louis Anthony Iozzino passed away peacefully in his sleep on December 8, 2023 at the age of 100 in Ocala, Florida. He was born on August 3, 1923 in Brooklyn, NY. Louis was a decorated First Lieutenant and bombardier in the US Army Air Corps. He served in the Pacific theater of World War II and was honorably discharged from the US Army Air Corps in 1945 – after 33 missions and over 400 hours of service. After returning from the war, he decided to continue his education in civil engineering and while doing so met and married Mary Musumeci in 1950. Louis and Mary had four children – Amelia, George, Lois, and Phyllis. He obtained his professional engineering license in 1954 and pursued a fulfilling career in Civil Engineering until he retired in 1993 to take care of Mary, who passed away later that year. In 1998, Louis married Violet Cafaro, and they enjoyed being snowbirds between Oyster Bay, New York and Ocala, Florida. Louis lived a fulfilling life, enjoying the company of and supporting his family and friends at every opportunity. He was a devout Catholic, an avid Yankees fan, and a lover of the sun and beach. Louis was a kind, gentle and loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, cousin and friend to so many. Louis is survived by Violet, 2 daughters Amelia (Dennis) and Lois (Ron), 4 grandchildren, Kristy, Michael (Christina), Whitney (William) and Rachel (William), and 6 great-grandchildren, Lily, Alexandra, Amelia, Michael, Brianna and Brody. Louis was preceded in death by his wife Mary (1993), son George (1994), and daughter Phyllis (1990). The wake will be held at O’Shea in East Meadow from 3:00 pm – 8:00 pm on Thursday December 14, 2023. The funeral service will be held at St. Frances de Chantal in Wantagh at 11:15 am on Friday December 15, 2023. Interment to follow at Holy Rood Cemetery in Westbury.
