Obituary

It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of Andrew J. Donahue on August 25, 2023, at the age of 82. A fifty year resident of Plainedge, New York, Andrew was a devoted son of Irish immigrants, the late Andrew and Alice Donahue who hailed from County Leitrim, Ireland. Andrew was born on June 13, 1941, in the Bronx, New York. A proud graduate of the Immaculate Conception Grammar School, Cardinal Hayes High School, and St. John’s University. Andrew had a career for thirty eight years with the United States Government. Andrew met Ann, the love of his life, at a County Leitrim dance at the Commodore Hotel in New York City in 1968. Two years later, they married at St. Patrick’s Cathedral and have been inseparable and devoted to each other ever since. They traveled extensively, experiencing all that life had to offer. It was pure magic.

A true patriot, Andrew loved his country with all his heart and was extremely proud of his Irish heritage. He was a member of the New York City’s St. Patrick’s Day Parade and Celebration Committee for many years. He proudly marched up Fifth Avenue with the 69th Infantry. Andrew was a loyal member of the Knights of Columbus, Counsel 5983. He honorably served thirty five plus years in the 69th Infantry Division of the New York Army National Guard and rose to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. Andrew was a devoted life long New York METS fan.

Andrew will be fondly remembered by his family and friends for his kind heart, warm smile, and great sense of humor. We will miss him dearly, but are thankful to God for allowing him to be part of our lives. The family invites everyone to services that will be held to celebrate Andrew’s life. Visitation will be held at the Charles J. O’Shea Funeral Homes, 603 Wantagh Avenue, Wantagh, on Wednesday from 2:00 pm – 5:00 pm and 7:00 pm – 9:00 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, August 31, 2023 at the Roman Catholic Church of St. Martin of Tours, 220 Central Avenue, Bethpage. Immediately followed by the Rite of Committal at St. Charles Cemetery, 2015 Wellwood Avenue, Farmingdale.
