Obituary

Lorraine Marie (Laurencot) Schneider passed peacefully from this world on January 20, 2023, surrounded by family. Her childhood was spent in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn and Shoreham, Long Island where she enjoyed the company of her sisters Claire and Jeanne while trying to keep up with her older brothers Rene and Harry. Her early education was at Visitation Academy and Fontbonne Hall Academy in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn. She later graduated with a degree in Mathematics from Trinity College in Washington, D.C. She met her husband Joe while working as an actuary at the Home Life Insurance Company in Manhattan and devoted herself to raising their six children for the next 24 years. She retired from a career in branch banking in 1991. Lorraine was a devout Catholic, a daily communicant, who was very active in the St. Frances de Chantel parish for many years. She taught CCD, assisted families in the Ministry of Consolation and led a prayer group for her small Christian community. She was also active in The March for Life, participating in marches for many years.

Lorraine loved being active and her passions included sailing, skiing, hiking, biking and traveling internationally. She enjoyed her tennis group and attending morning mass daily followed by coffee and socializing with friends afterwards. Her major life work was raising her family and creating experiences that bound us together. Her children shared the pleasure of getting together with their cousins regularly as did her grandchildren when they arrived. Her homes in Wantagh and Southampton were the focal points of many gatherings and shared experiences. Her wonderful sense of humor and mischievous smile enlivened many memorable gatherings. She will be greatly missed by many including her son Steve (Lynn) and their children Brian (Erica), Kathy (Adam), Kevin and Rachel (Mike); her daughter Jeanne Callahan (Paul) and their children Michelle (Rusmir), Kerry, Sean and Shannon; her daughter Elise Stosiek (Michael) and their sons Nicholas and Justin; her daughter Louise Moretto (Christian) and their children Maxence and Camille; her son Eric (Julie) and their daughters Carley and Ella. She is survived by her sister Claire Azzara and sister-in-law Barbara Laurencot and her many nieces, nephews and great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Joseph and son, Richard.
