Obituary

INGE MARIE GOETZ passed peacefully in her sleep at home January 13, 2023. Inge was born and raised in Salzwedel, Germany on October 21, 1937. She was the oldest daughter of Gustav and Martha Schulz. Inge had three siblings, Udo, Erika, and Klaus. Inge loved her life on the farm and to the city to work. She was a seamstress by day, and worked on the family farm on her days off. When possible she made time for dancing with her friends and was quite the fashionista. Of course she made most of her own clothes. At 24 Inge moved to America with Gerhard R. Goetz and their daughter Ursula Heidi. Inge and Gerhard, known as Bob to his friends, were married in New York. They had a wonderful marriage full of love, happiness and lots of barbeques with friends. They both worked tirelessly to support their family, and helped raise their much loved grandson Michael Gerhard. Making sure everyone felt loved and never went without was most important to them.

Even though Inge loved Long Island, Germany was always home in her heart. Inge had a strong sense of pride in her German roots, teaching her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren all about the German culture and traditions. Her favorites being at Christmas, Advent wreathes, Advent calendars, St Nicholas Day, and of course Little Christmas. Widowed in 1987, Inge worked even harder to buy her home. One of her proudest accomplishments was providing a warm and loving environment for her family. Inge became Oma again the Kaitlin Marie who’s middle name is in her honor. In 2008 Inge got the best gift of all becoming a great grandmother with the arrival of Ashlee Rose, followed shortly after by Emily Teresa. Family came first to Inge, and the there was never someone who loved family more than Inge. She became Oma to the neighborhood children, her grandchildren’s friends, and even to all her co workers at the Newbridge rink. She was a one of a kind soul, on the day she passed, her grandson Michael said she was the closest thing to a Saint we’ll ever see. She never did a thing for herself, everyone else came first. We take solace in knowing she is resting peacefully with her beloved husband, her parents, her brothers, and niece Ramona. Inge is survived by her much loved sister Erika Thielbeer, her daughter Heidi Goetz McManus, son in law Kevin McManus, grandchildren Michael, Christine, and Kaitlin McManus, great grandchildren Ashlee and Emily, as well as her nephew Frank, his wife Nancy, and niece Angelika.
