Obituary

It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of Michael J. McCool, Jr., or as he was affectionately called, “Mickey.” Mickey passed away on November 18, 2022, after a long battle with failing health. He was 79 years of age. Though this is another difficult blow to our family, we take comfort in his heavenly reunion with his sons, Robert and Keith. Mickey was born to Michael and Helen McCool in Hells Kitchen Manhattan. He grew up with his siblings with strong Irish Catholic Faith and traditions that would last throughout his life. It was in his founding neighborhood that he met the love his life Lorraine. They would be married and move to Howard Beach where they raised their family. Mickey found his calling with the Steamfitters Local 638. His career was an endless source of pride for him as he worked throughout the city on all the major projects including the World Trade Center. Surrounded by pipes and concrete all day, he realized the importance of nature on the soul and bought a family vacation home upstate on the east branch of the Delaware River. It was here that he spent time with his family: hunting and fishing, singing songs around the campfire, and telling the same old stories that never seem to get old. Those were the best days of his life, and ours. Mickey lived a fantastic life that touched many lives. We will miss him with all our hearts. Beloved husband of Lorraine. Devoted of father of Kerri Palmeri (Erik), the late Keith (Diane), and the late Robert. Loving grandfather to Jack, Kayla, Taylor, and James. Adored brother of Maureen, Pat, and the late John. Family will receive friends Monday, 2 pm – 5 pm and 7 pm – 9 pm, at the Charles J. O’Shea Funeral Homes, 603 Wantagh Ave. (Exit 28N SS PKWY) Wantagh, NY. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, 11:15 am, at St. Barnabas R.C. Church in Bellmore, NY. Cremation Private.
