Obituary

SCIALO - Joseph of 94 years was called to heaven Saturday October 15, 2022, and joined the love of his life, the late Gioralma “May” Scialo. Joseph was born on December 28, 1927 to Mildred and Salvatore Scialo, grew up in Brooklyn, NY and was drafted at the age of 18 to serve the United States Military during WWII. He later moved to Middle Village, Queens where he raised his family. Joseph worked as an auto mechanic for NYC and often told stories about the many cars and trucks he would fix, his father’s pretzel stand in NYC during the Great Depression and all the wonderful times he had growing up through almost every decade. He enjoyed golfing, listening to Frank Sinatra, fixing whatever needed to be fixed with the many tools in his garage and climbing his famous ladder. Joseph loved the New York Yankees and would call his grandsons after each game and say, “Did you catch the game last night?”. He enjoyed taking his family out each year to the famous Steve’s Piccola Bussola where he would order a feast and end the night with a decaf “capo”. The family would spend hours at the round table in the corner and laugh all the way to the parking lot! Joseph was blessed to attend both of his grandson’s weddings, his granddaughter, Alyssa, graduate from Speech Pathology school, and meet his two beautiful great grandchildren, Sydney & Matteo Scialo. Joseph is survived by his daughter Karen (Ira) Cohen & son Joseph (Annie) Scialo, his grandchildren Christoper (Alexandra), Stephen (Taylor) & Alyssa, his great grandchildren Sydney & Matteo Scialo, his sister Marilyn, nephew John (Lauren) & their children John Jr. and Danielle, and niece Susan (Dana) & their children Emily and Sara. Joseph will be dearly missed by everyone who knew and loved him.
