Obituary
Obituary of Doreen C. Branca
Doreen C. Branca of Bluffton, SC & Point Lookout, NY died unexpectedly in the Bahamas on March 16th, 2022. A lifelong New Yorker, Doreen was born in Brooklyn on March 7th, 1957, and spent her formative years on Long Island, where she met and married her childhood sweetheart and husband of 44 years, Joseph Branca, and began a family. After years in Garden City, the family relocated to Northern Westchester County, where Doreen met many of her most cherished friends through lacrosse tournaments and at her favorite restaurant, Bacio. In 2018, with their children out of the nest, Doreen & Joe flew south for warmer weather to Bluffton, SC, where they built a beautiful home where every lighting fixture and picture frame was placed and approved by Doreen herself.
Frequently described as a “force of nature,” Doreen was an avid gardener, meticulous painter, and enthusiastic champion for her friends and family. She could often be found painting trim or tending her garden in Bluffton, or rearranging shells outside of their home in Point Lookout. She loved traveling, and treasured her most recent time abroad with family and friends in Italy and Greece. She will be sorely missed, and fondly remembered by those that loved her most.
Doreen is survived by her loving and devoted husband, Joseph A. Branca, and her children Caitlin E. Mattos (Marlon) of Delanson, NY; Gregory J. Branca of Cohoes, NY; and Thomas M. Branca of Charlotte, NC. She is also survived by her cherished mother, Therese J. Winter, and loving brothers Gerard (Kim), Brian (Ann), and Thomas (Kristin). She is predeceased by her father, Robert R. Winter, and her brother John V. Winter.
