Joseph S Galati was born November 22, 1924, the second oldest of four sons to Salvatore and Anna Galati. He is survived by his son Joseph and wife Geraldine , his daughter Celeste Zerbarini and her husband Raymond. Grandchildren Daniel Campolieta and wife Christen, Elena DiMarco and husband Christopher , Jessica Sudol and husband David , Michael Varieur and wife Destinie, Joseph Galati and Elizabeth Galati . He also was blessed with 5 great grandchildren . He was pre deceased by his daughter Anne Campolieta and his wife Agnes. He was born in Brooklyn New York where he enjoyed playing stickball, and summers at Meadowmere Park swimming and fishing with his brothers. At the age of 18, he was drafted by the US Army and served honorably as an Army medic. Serving in north Africa and the Italian campaigns, he was awarded the Purple Heart on two occasions, and the Bronze Star for gallantry in action. Following the war, he enrolled at St. John’s University, receiving his degree in bacteriology. He embarked in a lifelong career in pharmaceutical sales, working the majority of the time for Warner-Lambert laboratories. Joe excelled throughout his career, bringing innovation to the managerial positions he held. In 1952 while vacationing in the Poconos with his cousin Joe, he fell in love at first sight with Agnes Petrucci of Astoria Queens. Their two-year courtship was filled with long drives, meticulously prepared picnics by Agnes, and voluminous love letters between the two. They ultimately were married in May of 1954. In his spare time, he loved playing golf, always regretting that he was I “lefty” golfer - which was responsible for his predictable slice.

They spent all but one year of their 62 years of marriage in Wantagh New York, in the same three-bedroom ranch where they raised their three children. Joe sacrificed the majority of the career opportunities that he was offered, in exchange for maintaining stability of the family, and being allowed to completely dedicate himself to his family. Giving back to the community was a big part of his life holding positions on the school board , coaching little league and a long time usher at both St. Raphaels and St. Francis parishes .

The joy of his life was his family, despite the great source of sorrow when he lost his oldest daughter Anne in 1992, a loss he and Agnes never quite recovered from. Following retirement, Joe and Agnes enjoyed traveling, playing cards with their dear friends, and spending time with their children in Rhode Island, Texas , Rockland County and Connecticut. Joe remained very active with the Knights of Columbus at Saint Francis de Chantel parish. Joe was very proud that he was able to administer the 300 club, raising money for local charities. That was a position he maintained until he relocated to Texas in 2020. After losing Agnes in 2016, Joe remained active with his Knights of Columbus Brothers, participating regularly in all of their activities. Due to some changing health situation‘s, COVID-19, and the reality of being 95 years old, he relocated to his adopted home of Sugarland Texas to be close to his son Joe and his family. Leaving the only home he knew since 1954 and transitioning to Texas was a very brave move for Joe. He immediately made new friends in Texas. Joe gained the respect of all that got to know him. Joe’s kind, loving soul will be dearly missed by everyone who was lucky enough to know him .
