Obituary

Laurence Joseph Skelly, passed away on Sunday December 19th 2021. Larry was born in Manhattan, NY. He grew up with his loving family in Rockaway; his parents Laurence & Margaret, and siblings Jean, Peggy, & Joe. Amazing life partner, and beloved husband of Evelyn. Father of Deirdre, Lauren and Meg. Grandfather to Eve, Emily, Casey and another on the way. Loving uncle to many amazing nieces and nephews. Friend and helper of many wondrous people. Alumni of Notre Dame University, where he received his Bachelor’s in Psychology and became a social worker. At 27, he decided to put himself through law school at St. John’s University. After four years of night school he was successful in his endeavor. Larry worked at NYRA, and ISO for many years. In his retirement he continued to help those in need through Island Harvest, and the Veterans Association, making sure Vets had access to their benefits. Larry loved to travel, taking on any chocolate cake, loved his wife always, made us laugh constantly (especially at ourselves), enjoyed taking care of family/friends and showed us how to love ourselves completely. Family will receive friends Wednesday December 22nd 2-4, 6-9pm at O’Shea Funeral Home in Wantagh. Mass of Larry will be held December 23rd, 11 am at Holy Family Church, in Hicksville followed by burial at St. Charles Cemetery, in Farmingdale. Due to COVID no lunch to follow but the promise of a celebration of Larry’s life his birthday weekend in June 2022.
