Jay and I were long time email mates and sports enthusiasts. I knew he had undergone cancer surgery, and when I stopped hearing from him I feared the worst. He was a good friend and good man, with a great sense of humor. My deepest condolences to his family.

Jay was a great brother in law. A really good man. Enjoyed all our conversations at family gatherings. He always engaged in sports talk with my kids, always interested in what others were doing, encouraging to all. He will be greatly missed. My thoughts go out to Donna, Jeanette and John ❤️ The Miller Family

Jay and I worked together in the DWI Unit at Nassau County Probation. He was known for his commitment to justice and compassion. He was also known as “Mr. Kindman”, and I will tell you the story. There was an extremely mentally impaired female Probationer, who had many emergencies and called us on a frequent basis. One day she appeared at our office distraught. Jay and I spent a good deal of time talking and reassuring her. She felt better and went home. The next day she called our office and thanked “Mr. Kindman” and me. And so, Jay was renamed. He lived up to his new name. I will miss my friend, Mr. Kindman.

I knew Jay as an umpire who worked many of my softball games at Oceanside HS in the 80’s & 90’s. Always had him on my playoff list as I knew he’d be fair, consistent & honest. He was always a gentleman toward me & respectful to my players. I envision him umpiring a game right now in Heaven! My sincerest condolences to all his family, friends & his softball colleagues. Donna & Family:
Jay was a class guy from Day 1 at LaSalle. He was my Captain as a senior and what I remember most is his calm, firm demeanor. He was always fair to everyone and was well respected. We will all miss this classy man.
I was fortunate to reconnect with him at our LaSalle class reunions.

Jay and I were roommates at Fairfield University Class of 1968. Back when we met the NY Football Giants trained at Fairfield University. One season they had three running backs including Tucker Frederickson and Chuck Mercein. They were collectively called the Baby Bulls a moniker given to Jay and I at Intramural football games and it stuck. Even now Dick Dwyer calls me "Bull".
In 1992 Jay invited me to become a baseball umpire with Long Island Approved Umpires Association (LUAUA). Whenever I (#20) got to Umpire with #6 (Jay) I knew it would be an easy game because of Jay's knowledge and the way he related and respected fans, coaches and especially players.
When my own brother passed away this March how surprised I was to see Jay and Donna at the funeral home! There aren't many Friends who will roll out of bed at 3:00am and come to your aid if you're in trouble. I was lucky that Jay was just that kind of friend!
Baby Bull you will be missed. I'm a better man for knowing you! Rest In Peace
