Obituary Part 1

Alvaro C. Abraldes, 95, of East Islip, NY, passed away on April 12th, 2021 after a battle with cancer. Alvaro was born on October 14th, 1925 to Pedro and Manuela Abraldes in Havana, Cuba. After graduating from Havana University where he studied Industrial Engineering, he met Amparo Vega, and they wed in 1953 going on to have 5 children. Alvaro was a devoted family man who immigrated to the United States in 1953 seeking the American dream and building a better life for his new family. He arrived in NYC where he sacrificed, worked hard and brought his family and extended family members to start anew in America. He exemplified the spirit of a true adventurer always looking to take on new challenges and he settled in Selden, NY where his family lived for almost 50 years. He worked for 40 years as a Plant Manager for Elmont Manufacturing directing employees in building custom windows and doors. Alvaro was determined to provide for his family and give them the life he felt they deserved. His family meant more to him than anything else in the world. He was unendingly proud of Gisela, Peter and wife Patricia, Alice and husband David, Alexander and wife Donna and Aileen and husband Joseph and gave everything he could to support them.

Obituary Part 2

With even greater pride, he adored his 16 grandchildren: Ryan, Timothy and wife Allie, Sean, David, Alexandra, Katie, Nicholas, Andrew, Deirdre, Liam, Maeve, Thomas, Bridget, Matthew, Shannon and Julianna. He was blessed with two great grandchildren, Audrey and Sophia. They were his passion after retirement where he would spend hours in the garden with them, playing assorted games, going to sporting events, watching dance recitals and plays and being their biggest cheerleader. You could see all his adventures with them as he often posted all the family events on FB and with photos adorning all his walls. Anyone who knew Alvaro knew that he was the most loving father and husband a family could ask for. Alvaro was predeceased by his parents Pedro and Manuela, his brother Pedro, his granddaughter Deirdre and great granddaughter Audrey. He is survived by his wife Amparo, his sister Olga Pena, and his five children. The family requests that in lieu of flowers that a donation be made in his name to Cure SMA at www.curesma.org.
