Doreen was my next door neighbor and friend in Maspeth, NY. Doreen was one of the sweetest, prettiest girls I knew and
would always be there for me if I needed her. Doreen, her family and my family (Korovich) were very close.
She was a soft-hearted but strong loving person. I have many fond thoughts of you Doreen and know you will be
resting easy in heaven with some of your other family members. God bless you always,
Marie Korovich-Alicki

It didn’t matter how old I got or that I graduated high school, or got married or had a child of my own, I would always be “Tallulah” to Aunt Reen. She always had a way of making me feel special and noticed. Each night since her passing, I’ve replayed these memories and there are many. I have a feeling that anyone reading this has many.
She was a bright fixture in our family. I remember the after school trips to the bank and being so excited to wave hello through the glass at the drive up. I remember Sunday mornings when she would bring bagels and ask me all about school and riding lessons and make me feel like the most important kid in the world. Aunt Reen was there for so many happy memories but she was also there for me in some of the hardest times as well. She was a person I could tell anything to and be completely myself. She would say “Hey, tell me what’s going on. We’ll get through this.”
Just when I think I’ve replayed every memory I have with her, something sparks another one. As I reached for my eye liner this morning, I remembered it was Aunt Reen who took me shopping for my first makeup ever. I was so overwhelmed by the choices. She picked out the kohl black eyeliner that is still my favorite today.
I know in the days and weeks to come it will still be hard to process her loss. But I know that where she is, she’s not alone. I know Ruby was the first to greet her and walk her home. I know she didn’t get to go to that Elvis concert because she was too young, but Elvis is playing now. I know she’s looking down now and saying “Hey Tallulah, all of you, it’s going to be ok.”
