Obituary

Nora McElroy July 15, 1928 – November 5, 2020 Nora Ann (George) McElroy, age 92, died peacefully on November 5, surrounded by her loving family members. Nora was the true matriarch of a big, loud, loving family, which she considered her greatest joy and her most important role. What Nora lacked in size, she made up for in personality. She was loving and witty, kind and smart, feisty and strong-willed… But if Nora could be encapsulated in one word, it would be grateful. She appreciated all things, big and small. A phone call from a relative. A really good piece of chocolate. A new great grandchild to love. A win for the Yankees. Another day in her chair, watching classic old movies with her husband of 73 years. More than anything, her family will remember the love shared between Nora and Edward for more than seven decades, a love that has and will continue to permeate their family for generations to come. In addition to her loving husband, Edward J. Mcelroy, she is survived by their five adoring children: Edward McElroy and wife Sophia (Ferruzzi) McElroy of Moriches, NY; Michael McElroy of East Meadow, NY; Mary McElroy of Blue Point, NY, James McElroy and his wife Donna (Montalbano) McElroy of Commack, NY; and Anne (McElroy) Schmidt and her husband Jim Schmidt of Norfolk, MA.

Obituary Part 2

Nora was a devoted grandmother to 12 loving grandchildren and their families: Nicole and Michael Voelker, Melissa and Rachel McElroy, Edward and Lucy McElroy, Brian and Kim McElroy, Jenni and Steve Bitetto, Nick and Jackie McElroy, Matt McElroy and Christine Garibotto, Grace McElroy, Rose McElroy, Christy Schmidt and Hillary Noble, Kevin Schmidt, and Michael Schmidt. She was also the proud great grandmother to Justin, Kylie, Caidyn, Tyler, Henry, Nicholas, Mila, MacKenzie, Gemma and Arden, and aunt / great aunt to many loving nieces and nephews. Born in New Castle, Pennsylvania to Mary (Saad) and Peter George, Nora was also a loving sister to siblings Frank, John, Kalim, James, Anthony, Rose, and Anne, all predeceased.
