A Celebration of a life well lived!!! Fred Barreto 8-15-1932 8-19-2020
My father, Fred Barreto lived 88 years and left us yesterday, called by God to come home. He lived a very happy and full life, married to my mom, Annie Barreto for 68 years. They met when they were 16, married at 19 and had 4 children, 11 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. A life filled with love and family, very blessed beyond belief.
My dad was one of the happiest people you could ever meet, always with a smile, a joke, or funny story, and a hug and a kiss. He worked most of his life for Chevrolet dealerships, first as a mechanic and then he worked his way up to management. He worked in the restaurant business on weekends to make extra money to provide for his family and a stay-at-home wife, making a great home. They called 34 Candle Lane, Levittown home for almost 50 years. They were the classic 1950’s, 1960’s, and 1970’s wonderful home, in a neighborhood surrounded by close friends.
When they retired they moved to Aguadilla, Puerto Rico and had 10 wonderful years. They loved living there and they would always be welcoming friends and family to their retirement home. When my dad’s heath became an issue they moved to Bedford, NH to live with me and close to great health care that was necessary.
My dad and mom always taught us about giving back for instance, welcoming “Fresh Air Fund” inner city kids during the summer, to spend a few weeks in the suburbs. His dedication to the Wantagh Volunteer Fire Department for 41 years, was amazing. As a fire fighter, a rescue squad leader and Captain for several years on the WFD Rescue 2 Squad. I was very proud of my dad and his service and dedication to the community.
My dads passion was not only for his family and fire department, he love his boat, “Freddy’s Getaway” and the thousands of fishing trips with his friends and family. Always fun and lots of laughs, and even sometimes they caught fish.
I loved my father very much and he taught me life’s lessons, to be respectful, work hard and love of God and family. He will be very missed by his family and all that knew him.
“Well done, good and faithful servant!” (Matthew25:23) A life well lived with family and love.
