Obituary Part 1

William “Bill” Benson Jr, was born on January 13, 1970, the first child of William and Joanne Benson. Bill was followed by his two younger sisters, Christine, and Suzanne. He was the consummate big brother, always watching out for his sisters. Anytime they needed him, he was always there without a moment’s hesitation. Bill loved music. He had perfect pitch and a keen ability to play songs by ear. He was the kind of kid who could pick up any instrument and learn to play it, playing piano, drums, and sax. He went on to play baritone sax in the Seaford High School band, performing with the marching band all across the country, including the St. Patrick’s Day Parade in New York City. His love for music wasn’t only playing it, but also listening to it. He could “name that tune” after only a few notes, possessed a wide knowledge of music trivia, and loved going to see live shows. Over the years he attended hundreds of concerts, from big name acts to smaller bar bands. Bill’s other passion was sports. He followed every sport, and could rattle off random stats without a moment’s hesitation. He was a diehard NY Islanders fan, NY Giants, NY Knicks, and NY Mets fan. Just like his ability in music trivia, Bill was able to go toe to toe with the best of them in sports trivia. When he wasn’t watching sports, Bill could be found watching Seinfeld and had the ability to quote any episode.

Obituary Part 2

Bill was a graduate of Seaford High School, class of 1988. He went on to join the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey in 1995. Bill moved through the ranks to the position of Operations Supervisor at LaGuardia Airport, where he served most recently. It was later in life that Bill found his greatest joy, and love. He began dating his wife and longtime friend, Tracie, and the two welcomed their first son, William “Liam” shortly after. They went on to marry, and then welcomed their second son Colin. Of all of the jobs Bill had in his lifetime, “Daddy” was by far his favorite. He excelled at it. He loved spending time with his family, no matter how simply. His boys were his biggest thrill, and he loved nothing more than taking them to sporting events or watching football with them. Liam and Colin were just as in love with their dad as he was with them. Bill leaves behind his wife Tracie, sons, Liam and Colin, his parents Bill and Joanne Benson, sisters and their spouses, Christine and Anthony Ruscigno and Suzanne and Vincent Oppedisano. Also Tracie’s loving parents Frank and Lee Ann Razzagone, and sister and her spouse Loreen and Frank Ribaudo. He was adored by his nephews and nieces, Anthony, Stephen, Noelle, Luca, Evelyn, Joseph, Dominick and Vincent, as well as his many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Our hearts are shattered by his loss. We will love him always.
