Obituary Part 1

Nancy H (Harnish) Hohn Lando, cherished wife of the late Russell H Hohn and the late Charles F Lando, of Wantagh, NY passed away peacefully on January 27, 2020, surrounded by her devoted children. Nancy was born in Carslile, PA on January 22, 1936; and grew up in Harrisburg, PA where she met, and then married, Russ in 1957. She graduated from Shadyside Nursing School in Shadyside, PA as a Registered Nurse and worked up until the day her first child was born. A job opportunity for Russ had the young Hohn family transferring to Long Island where they landed in Wantagh. For many years Nancy was a stay at home Mom involved in many parent activities. She and Russ loved the excitement and camaraderie of being involved with the Long Island Broncos and then continued in the same spirit with their involvement in the Wantagh HS Football Boosters. Nancy returned to full time nursing again in 1972. She took great pride in working at South Nassau Communities Hospital for 25 years. There, her roles progressed from floor nurse, to Head Nurse to Nurse Manager until she retired in 1997. It was a great comfort to her to have her ‘South’ family care for Russ when he passed away in 1995 and then Charlie in 2016. She has lifelong friends she met at ‘South’. Nancy and Charlie were married in 1997 in the Levittown Presbyterian Church where they were members and humbly served for many for many years. More recently they began attending the Wantagh Memorial Congregational Church making an immediate connection. The relationships and support she found there were immeasurable.

Obituary Part 2

Before becoming ill, Nancy walked two miles almost daily. She enjoyed travelling, the challenge of puzzles and loved to read hardcover novels. She and Charlie owned three Greyhounds and were involved with multiple Greyhound adoption groups. Nancy was generous with those in need and was always ready to host a friend with pizza and a glass of wine. After becoming widowed for the second time in 2016, Nancy would say again and again to her friends and family, “I can’t believe how lucky I am to have met and married two loves of my life. I am so lucky!” Well, those men were lucky too. Nancy is survived by her son Stephen Hohn of Whitesboro, NY, daughter Robin (Paul) Owens of Essex Jct., VT and son Scott Hohn of Marcellus NY. Loving Grandmother to Chris, Tory, Tracy, Tyler, Jillian, Samantha, Whitney and Jessica and proud Great Grandmother (GiGi) to Joshua, Kyra, Jacob, Brayden, Ashlyn, Alexander, Hailey, Sway, Emma, and Zachary, with two more boys due this year. Devoted sister to Emily Daschbach of Bethel Park, PA and Marcia Wilson of Powhatan, VA.. Nancy valiantly battled a surprising cancer diagnosis last Fall and will forever live in the hearts of her family and friends as one very special lady. Family will receive friends Sunday, 1-6 pm, at the Charles J. O'Shea Funeral Homes, 603 Wantagh Ave. (Exit 28N SS PKWY) Wantagh, NY. Religious Service will be held Monday, 10 am, at Wantagh Memorial Congressional Church. Interment to take place Tuesday at East Harrisburg Cemetery in PA.
