I was vicar at Calvary from 1991 -1992. Pastor Kern was very helpful to me during those formative years. Some things he taught me I still use to this day. He and Alma came to a church I later served; he preached and Alma presented at Bible study. I didn't realize he had died until just now. He died on my birthday. God's peace to his family and friends.

I just saw this announcement. Pastor Kern lived such a long life! I look forward to seeing him in Heaven again! I attended Calvary Lutheran as a girl with my brother Russell and parents Dorothy and Gordon Halvorsen. I did have some correspondence with Pastor Kern years ago and now wish had looked him up again. I'm so thankful for Jesus that we will never have to say goodbye in Heaven. God bless Pastors family, my sincerest condolences.

Karen Seymour Newhoff and Paul Newhoff posted a condolence

June and Walter Seymour, now sainted, worked with many others and Pastor to open Calvary. My mother was his secretary for 25 years and our family was raised in the church. My sister Pam, sainted, was his children's babysitter for many years.
Pam, Greg, myself and Mark were all confirmed by Pastor. I have many memories of Saturday morning classes and memorizing Bible verses to be questioned in front of the congregation. Paul and I were married 51 years ago and we could not have done it without his tutelage. Then, there was Mark's funeral. Pastor strengthened our faith and guided us through that difficult time.
What I am trying to say is, he changed lives, taught us in faith, kept us strong through the hard times. He was always there for us. Now he is needed by his Master and can finally rest assured that we were blessed by knowing him and attending Calvary.

Our heartfelt sympathy to all of you as you grieve the passing of your sainted Father, and Grandfather. He is now seeing Jesus face to face, and that is a great victory for which we all long for. We will miss his yearly Christmas letters in which he brought us up to date on all the doings of his family. God is saying to him "Well done good and faithful servant.Enter my rest."
