Dr. Tormey was a beloved friend of our family. Not only did he bring me into this world, I'm proud to say he was my Godfather. A kinder man you'd never meet. Rest in peace, Uncle Jim. I hope you are up there having a drink with my dad. Much love and peace to the whole family.

Our condolences to all the Tormey’s. Dr. Tormey was not only a gentleman but a gentle man. He life’s work brought such joy to so many people. His Xavier and Holy Cross Jesuit education I’m sure instilled in him his deep sense of faith, family and country. A fierce defender of his faith and life itself. Thank you Dr. Tormey for your mark on our beloved Mercy Hospital. May the Angels speed you directly to Heaven where our Lord May welcome you, his good and faithful servant.

My warmest memories of my dear Uncle Jimmy were when I was a child and we would visit the Tormey home on Lefferts Rd for (Goldsmith clan)Christmas family get togethers. Michael & I would always be chasing each other around the house or playing in the basement and at some point we would come up for a break- steal some chips & dip, dry roasted peanuts and celery/carrots ( occasionally a few radishes too) then grab a glass of ginger ale and hide in Uncle Jmimy’s study to watch TV and hide from everyone else ( Rem: we were the youngest and nobody really wanted to play with us ;-) ).
Uncle Jimmy would always check in on us ( I’m sure to make sure we weren’t messing his study up) but always had a funny joke to tell or say something humorous and we would LOL! It always made me feel like we were included in the family Christmas party! He was a very gentle, kind soul and his sense of humor was always delightful and tended to be of Irish in nature. I haven’t seen him for more than 25 years unfortunately, and will always miss his warm smile, his gentle style and natural sense of humor. God please welcome home Uncle Jimmy with a gentle hug, a warm smile and a beautiful Irish song on bagpipes!

Our deepest sympathy to Joan and to the entire Tormey clan. Jim was an outstanding man in every way. A wonderful father and grandfather, an excellent physician and a great brother-in-law. Jim's unshakeable faith in the catholic faith was an inspiration to us all. His easy going manner and friendly demeanor made it a pleasure to be around him. We will miss him and will never forget him.
