Many years ago Aunt Sophie was chosen by my parents to be my Godmother. I am so thankful that my Godmother is the most loving and caring person I know. She taught all of us, family, friends, neighbors, and acquaintances how kind words and good deeds could be “passed on” to make each of us feel special. When faced with a difficult decision, I think “What Would Sophie Do?” My family will always remember our many trips with Aunt Sophie and Uncle Neal to Connecticut (Eastern States Exposition), Massachusetts (Athol), and South Florida (Hollywood Race Track and Carribean cruises) Time with the Leary clan was always fun with lots of laughs. I love Aunt Sophie so much and I will miss seeing her sweet smile and hearing her uplifting words. I take comfort knowing she will be my guardian angel.

i married Sophie’s oldest grandson Jeremy in 1995. Sophie flew out to Arizona for the wedding. They passed around a microphone at the reception and she said a few words welcoming me into the family. She was smiling and seemed so happy. The speech she made touched my heart and I have it on tape and will treasure it forever.
I never had any real grandparents in my life. So for me Sophie was it. I’ve never met a more kind, loving, caring, happy person in my whole life. She lived life to the fullest. My first meeting was during Jeremy and I’s engagement. She was such an amazing woman. I felt like she truly loved me from the very first time we met and I loved her too. I remember having coffe our on her deck and she talked to me about her marriage and Neil.
We found out that my father and Neil died within months of each other and we laughed that they met in line at the pearly gates and got to talking about us and figured we make a good match.
We wished we could have lived closer to the family. The Leary clan is a wonderful family and losing our Matriarch will leave an empty space forever.

I will cherish my memories while I was living with my dear Aunt Sophie while I was finishing up my Bachelors at Stony Brook University. I spent a couple months with her and I am so happy that I had the chance to do that. I would go running every night and she would wait for me at the front door and look through the glass until I came back. I would tell her Aunt Sophie please don’t worry about me I’ll be fine. Then she would ask if I wanted spaghetti for dinner. Even though I was trying to excercise and lose weight I said yes (LOL) I would love spaghetti tonight. How could I ever say no to the most loving, beautiful person that is taking care of me? We ate spaghetti often and watched her game shows in her bed until she fell asleep and then I would sneak off to bed. I’m so happy I had that precious time with just her and I. I love her so much and I will forever miss her and hold her dear to my heart.
