My husband and I met John while he was playing at Thyme. We'd often have dinner at the bar, listening to his beautiful music and chatting about singers and concerts. We brought friends to hear him, and spent a glorious New Year's Eve a few years ago listening to John and his wife. Hearing him sing on a Friday night was always the exact thing we needed after a tough work week. John became more of a friend throughout the years and sometimes sat with us during his breaks. More recently, he shared his health journey with us, one I truly understood as my mom went through a similar journey, and past two years ago. We were so heartbroken to learn about John just this weekend, and wanted to share our memories, and say to all of his loved ones that John left a beautiful mark on this world, and he will always be in our hearts.

Jen,
My deepest and heartfelt thoughts and prayers are with you. Although I have not seen you guys in a while, you were never out of my thoughts. I was remembering the last time I saw you both. Ran into you at the Olive Garden. What I remember most was the wonderful bear hug. John had a gift for making a person feel safe and at ease with his hug. He also had a way of making you feel like you were an important part of his heart. And I believe his heart was so big that indeed all those he knew he truly loved.
I cannot imagine your loss and your heartbreak but I know John is looking down on you and thinking how lucky he was to have you! He will always be an angel on your shoulder.

We met John 32 years ago. He genuinely exemplified and possessed all qualities of a truly wonderful person. An extremely talented person in so many ways. Always ready to help with a quick smile and heartwarming laugh. I could go on forever. We called him “big guy”. God made him so big because of the size of his heart. Love you Big Guy ❤️ May you rest in Gods arms. Loved you always, miss you forever. Thank you for all you’ve done Linda & Mark

Deepest sympathy & prayers to Jen & all of John’s family & friends. John was a unique & charismatic man with more talent than many of us could ever dream of. He had a way of drawing people to himself & making them feel comfortable. I will always treasure the many years of spiritual music, prayer & friendship that we shared during our years together at St. Martin of Tours. May John Rest In Peace in the loving arms of his Creator for all eternity.

I came to know John as a parishioner at St. Martins. We went to the same mass where he sang. Got to know him well in the many shows that were done. He was a musical gift to the world. He could play everything. He loved to share his gifts. I’m sure he’s arranging a performance now for the folks in Heaven.

I joined the folk group back around 1993 when John led the group at the folk mass in the auditorium. Later, I started playing guitar with the group and we continued playing together for many Christmas and Easter seasons and at the 10 o'clock children's mass for years. He was always willing to share his tremendous knowledge of music and guitar with me and truly inspires me to this day. Thank you, John, for that. I would like to extend my sincerest condolences to the family.
Rest in peace.

I've known John since 1989 when I joined the Folk Group at St. Martin of Tours. I liked singing but couldn't read music and didn't know where I belonged in terms of range. John took me under his wing and said that I was in the middle of the keyboard - a true alto. Was that a good thing, I asked him? I thought that made me less than soprano. He told me that every note was important and although soprano was a beautiful place to be, the alto brought the song to a different level of beauty, in harmony to the melody. He even taught me the harmony to Happy Birthday and to this day I cannot sing its melody. I will miss you my friend. It is so hard to say goodbye, but all of us will see you one day in heaven. I know the first thing I will be aware of is the sound of the guitar as only John G. Struck can play it.
Rest in peace. Genny Mitchell

I've known John for 21 years. We worked in the same Long Island music circles. We had an instant connection when we met, first as musicians, then as friends. He had unique connections with so many people through his support, encouragement & inspiration. Our first performance together as a duo lasted 6 hours (no rehearsal, just "do you know this one?") with only one 15 minute break & the time flew by. We laughed the entire time & it just felt like we've been performing together forever. We played music together several times over the years with different people & for different reasons, musical, spiritual & charitable. I like to believe we were each other's "go-to" guy who you knew you could rely on. The last "go-to" thing John did for me was playing guitar on stage at Eisenhower Park during a Harry Chapin tribute concert while I nervously sang a duet & proposed to my fiancee in front of 1,000 people. He did it without question or reservation because he knew I found my soulmate. We saw each other many times since then socially, & within the last year while I was sick & couldn't see him in person, we texted each other & hoped to set up time to video chat with other, but unfortunately it never came to be. But I love him & know he loves me & I am forever grateful to him for all he gave me.
