ZAGER – Donald Garvey, 87, passed away peacefully at home on September 26, 2018 surrounded by his loving family. Graduate of Gloucester High School, 1949. Graduate of U.S. Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point, NY, 1953, with a Bachelor of Science Degree. Upon graduation, he was stationed in Pearl Harbor as a Naval Officer, where he married the love of his life, Joan Kathleen Bourdon. He joined Grumman Aerospace Corporation as a Project Engineer and worked his way up to Director of Operations and Administration and Technical Operations. He received his MBA at Hofstra University and was an adjunct faculty member at Farmingdale University. After retiring in 1992 he enjoyed many wonderful trips to Europe and across the country with his wife Joan. He reflected the love of Jesus in all he did. He was active in his church, St. Frances de Chantal R.C.C. He was a religious instructor, a member of the Ministry of Consolation, and a volunteer with Meals on Wheels. He always said his greatest accomplishment in life was his loving family. Beloved husband to Joan for over 64 years. Dedicated father to Laureen Piegari (Ben), Kathleen Sokoloff (Steven), Nancy Morcerf (Joe), Carolyn Weinold (Bill), Gerard (the late Lorieann), and the late Donald (Monika). Cherished by his 17 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. Loving son to the late Joseph and Ruth, and brother to his predeceased siblings Philip, Robert, Barbara, Priscilla, Ruth, and Frances. Family will receive friends Sunday, 2-5 pm and 7-9 pm, at the Charles J. O’Shea Funeral Homes at 603 Wantagh Avenue (Exit 28N SS PKWY) Wantagh, NY.
