My first memory of Janet is 1971 and her serving Branko and me breakfast. John and she had been married shortly before us, then newlyweds ourselves. We were to their first apartment on Fourth Ave. in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn. My new sister-in-law made impressive blueberry pancakes – JUST RIGHT! On reflection, it seems to me that those two words personify Janet’s life; she was a righteous woman in the broadest, most joyous meaning of that word, devoted to her immediate and extended family, with a wonderful work ethic and high standards and much love.
Sadly we don’t hear it used much anymore, but we benefit by it, just as we benefited from Janet’s presence among us. She was A PRESENT, of calm, goodness, kindness, someone with whom one could feel comfortable and share time. Pope Francis says that, “Eternity is now for those who can see it”. Janet entered in before us; her memory comforts and inspires me. We miss you here, Janet! Thank you, dear Family, for sharing her with us.
