O'Leary-Mary Rose, passed away peacefully on September 4th, 2016 in the company of her loving children at the age of 88. Mary was the oldest daughter of Mary Anne and Joseph Patrick Fitzgerald’s 7 children. She was born January 17th, 1928 in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn. She attended Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Bay Ridge Brooklyn, where she played as a guard in women's basketball. After high school she worked as an AT&T telephone operator. In later years she worked as a NYPD crossing guard in Rosedale, NY. Mary was known for her support of numerous Catholic Charities, especially MaryKnoll..
Beloved wife of the late John Joseph O'Leary. Loving mother of Rose Giuffrida, John O'Leary, Teresa Pariaros, Kathleen Demarco, and Timothy O'Leary. Cherished sister of Nancy Hartmann, and adored grandmother of 12 grandchildren: Deanna, Nicky, Cristina, Angela, Amanda, JJ, Kelly, Michelle, Anthony, TJ, Patrick, and Lauren.
Family will receive friends Thursday, 2-5 pm and 7-9 pm, at the Charles J. O’Shea Funeral Home: 2515 N. Jerusalem Rd. (Exit 25N SS PKWY) East Meadow, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday 10:15 am, at St. Barnabas R.C. Church, Bellmore, NY. Interment to follow at St. Charles Cemetery.
