Mary "Maura" Philomena Connolly Rooney died peacefully on June 29, 2015 in Stafford, VA due to complications following Alzheimer's disease. She was 75. Maura was born on September 5th, 1939 in Belfast, Northern Ireland to her parents, James (Seamus) and Mary (Ria) Connolly. She married Felix (Rocky) Rooney in 1959. Maura and Rocky moved to NY and eventually settled in Wantagh, NY. Maura retired in 2005 after many years of dedicated service to Syosset Hospital. Maura was widowed at the young age of 34 and singlehandedly raised her four children. She loved spending time with her 13 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, who lovingly called her Grammy. Her passions in life included history, world travel, and reading. Her strong work ethic and determination led her to work two jobs for most of her life. Maura is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Donald Eckert of Farmingville, NY; and their five children Kristin, Donna, Briana, Christopher, and Kyle. Her daughter and son-in-law, Siobhan and Patrick Finch of Stafford, VA; and their four children Siobhan, Jamie, Katie and Betsy. Her son and daughter-in-law, Brendan and Dawn Rooney of Chester, NY; and their three children Caitlin, Brendan, and Bridget. Her daughter and son-in-law, Maire and David Young of Stafford, VA; and their daughter Ciara. She is preceded in death by her husband, Rocky. Maura will be buried in St. Charles Cemetery on July 2nd, 2015. A memorial will take place on July 1st at 6:00 pm at Charles J. O'Shea Funeral Home.
