Dorothy Marie Broadhurst (nee Ketterer) died peacefully on Saturday, January 3, 2015 in Pembroke Pines, FL at the age of 94. Dorothy is survived by her siblings, Rosemary Hoover, Ruth Meyer and Herbert Ketterer. In addition, she is survived by her 3 children, Joan Araujo, Martin Fafette and Michelle Klein; 3 stepchildren, Geoffrey Broadhurst, Scott Broadhurst and Wendy Pascale; 9 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, and 4 great-great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Elizabeth Ketterer; her stepmother, Monica Ketterer; her husband, Frank Broadhurst; her sister, Irma Needham, and her brothers, Charles J. Ketterer and Russell Ketterer. Dorothy was born on March 20, 1920 in Pittsburgh, PA. In 1937, she moved to New York and started her career at the Bulova Watch Company where she met and married Frank Broadhurst in 1961. She continued her career at Bulova for 33 years and was their first female supervisor. She worked on the fuse assemblies line for the Viet Nam War contracts and the Accutron watch. After retirement, she returned to Pittsburgh, PA and was active in the parishes of All Saints RC and St. Bonaventure, as well as the local AARP community. In 2004, she moved to Pembroke Pines, FL. With the help of her daughter, Joan, she was able to be active in the South Focal Point Senior Community Center and enjoyed cross-country travel to visit family and friends. A memorial service will be held on Friday, January 16th ,7-9pm, at Albrecht, Bruno and O'Shea Funeral Home, East Islip, NY. A funeral mass will be held on Saturday, January 17th, 9:15 am at St. Mary's RC Church, East Islip, NY and interment will take place at Greenfield Cemetery, Uniondale, NY.
