The doors of our first home Angela’s House located in East Moriches opened in the fall of 2000 as a culmination of a ten-year effort by Bob Policastro. This special home for children is the first of its kind. Named after his daughter, this beautiful home offers a loving environment with 24-hour nursing care.

Obituary

It has been a long and blessed road for our angel, Sophia. Because of her we met so many caring and exceptional people who have offered their love and support. She brought out the best of everyone she met and we are forever grateful. When she was diagnosed with Spinal Muscular Atrophy at birth, she wasn’t expected to live past the age of two, and we were told that every day after that was a gift. Sophia endlessly surprised us. Her body was frail, but her heart was strong. Because of her thriving spirit, doctors were able to make unprecedented strides treating, and most importantly, preventing this genetic disease from disabling future generations of children. This is her legacy, and we could not be prouder of our little girl. Sophia was unable to sit up, run around or even breathe on her own, but she was happy. You could always see wonder and excitement in her eyes. She delighted in her big sister role to Jackson and Nina, and they in turn were always by her side. Sophia is now unbound from the restraints of her body. The beautiful light that was ever present in her eyes is free to see the world as it was meant to be seen, without boundaries. We will not say “Rest in Peace,” because Sophia’s new life is just beginning. Look to the sunrise, she’s there. Treasured daughter of Vincent and Catherine. Loving sister of Jackson and Nina. Adored granddaughter of Edward and the late Barbara Kamieniak, and Joseph Gaynor and Nina Harris.
