Obituary

Mary J. McQuillan October 30, 1935 – May 28, 2025 Mary J. McQuillan, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on May 28, 2025, at the age of 89. Born on October 30, 1935, Mary grew up in the Bronx, New York, the cherished daughter of the late Mae and Joseph McNiff. She was raised in a close-knit family that instilled in her a strong sense of faith, love, and resilience—qualities that she carried with her throughout her life. Mary married the love of her life, Matthew McQuillan, with whom she shared a lifetime of devotion and partnership. Together, they built a beautiful life in the Bronx and East Meadow, New York, where they raised their four children: Maureen (Malachy Higgins), Brian (Kathleen), Michael (Denise), and Matthew (Maureen). She was a proud and deeply loved grandmother to Malachy (Chrissy), Brian (Morgan), Deirdre (TJ), Daniel (Emily), Cara, Meghan (Justin), Kathryn, and Aileen, and the cherished great-grandmother of nine beautiful great-grandchildren. Mary was also a devoted sister to Helena Kissane. Mary’s life was marked by selflessness, kindness, and a deep love for her family. She loved to travel, play bingo, and cherished her Irish heritage—traditions and passions she shared generously with those around her. Her legacy lives on in the hearts of those who knew her and the generations she helped shape. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
