Obituary
Joseph F. Colasurdo, treasured father and grandfather, passed away in Naples, FL on February 9, 2025 at the age of 86. Joe was born and raised on Bond St. in Red Hook, Brooklyn. A strikingly handsome young man, Joe met the love of his life Jean, and raised their family in Wantagh, NY. As a parent he was firm, but fair, and always knew how to make us laugh. He kept his family entertained with camping trips and family vacations in his younger years. The course of Joe’s life has always been one of service – family, country, and community. He served in the US Army National Guard. He found his true calling as a Fire Fighter for the FDNY. Studying hard and working his way up the ranks to Battalion Chief in the 57th Battalion. His pride and dedication to serve in the FDNY was what he lived for. He’d still be fighting fires today if given the chance! After his retirement, his grandchildren became the light of his life. He used to tease and joke with them and in return, they affectionately called him Poppy. The memories he etched into our lives will be with us to the end of our days.
Beloved husband of the late Jean. Loving father of Susanne Boltz, Frank (Claudia), and Jeanine Fitzgerald-Rogg(Rick). Cherished grandfather of Meghan, Christian, Jeanna and Caroline. Adored brother of Louis (Marie) and brother-in-law of Anthony (Margie). Family invites anyone who would like to attend the burial of ashes at St. Charles Cemetery on March 15th at 10 am., with a repass to follow. Everyone is instructed to meet at the main office until we’re assigned a chapel for the final commendation.
